So much for goals...

My grand plans for keeping up with this blog have failed. Truth be told, I'm not surprised. The best I can do is a bit of catching up. So...
Two weeks ago I got the flu and was out of commision for a week. I'm still trying to get all the way better and to catch up in my classes. It is very stressfull. Add to that all the end of semester work load, and you get stressed-out-of-her-head Melissa. I took a test on modernism yesterday. It did not go so well.
I read a really good book the other day. It is called Wonderous Strange, and I really like it. It is very engrossing. Much like Hunger Games or Wicked Lovely. I can't wait for Christmas break and all that free time. I'm gonna be reading up a storm!!!
There is quite a bit of drama going on in my apartment. It is getting kind of old. I'm hoping that Christmas break will allow things to cool down a bit. I'm just glad I tend to be level headed about certain things. It sure does help keep the drama from involving me too much.
And that is my life. Mostly.

The First Test

Yesterday I took my first test of the semester. It was on the Realism movement for my Literary History class. I have to say that it was harder than I thought, but at the same time easier. It is amazing how much a person can forget from one day to the next!
Things are still going well for me. My job is working out really well. It is as fun as a college job can be expected to be. My classes are still very interesting to me. I love my Literary Analysis class. Hopefully it loves me too seeing as I expect to get my first paper back tomorrow!
As for up coming events, this Saturday I plan on going to visit Hadley in Ephraim. I am very excited to see her again!
Also, for those who want a good book to read and haven't read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Marry Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows, you should! It is a very very enjoyable book. Much love!

Home for the weekend!!!!

Happy days!!! I love being home! I always forget how crazy and wonderful my family is until I am with them again. Hadley is back from college too and its been really good to see her.
Getting down to Orem yesterday was an experience. I drove down with my friend from high school and roommate last year, Laura Bassett. A week or so ago we bought two cds at walmart to listen to on the longish drive to and from Orem. We listened to both of them. One of them is a compilation of 80's power ballads that is tons of fun. We were a picture driving down the high way, belting the lyrics of Faithfully by Journey! The other is the Twilight soundtrack. I really have mixed feelings about the whole Twilight thing. I like the books, but the movie... I don't know. Its just not at all like the book to me. But I do really like the music, and its fun to listen to. Anyway at about the Lehi we hit massive traffic and had a couple close calls with complete idiots! (of course it wasn't at all my fault ;)!)
I got home before Hadley. Right after she got back, we went to Deseret Book to exchange a birthday present from a friend of hers. While there, we happened upon a killer deal on a book by one of my very favorite authors, Vivian Vande Velde. (The title : Heir Apparent) It was very satisfying.
The only less than happy thing about this weekend is all the reading I need to do for classes. During the weekend I have to read The Awakening, a bunch of poems, and from three textbooks. I hope my siblings want to have a homework party!!

A bit about me

I'm not so sure how well this blog will work out. I tend to set things like this up, then neglect them terribly! So again, we'll see if I can manage to maintain this new resolve of mine.

What new resolve you may ask? Its a valid question, seeing as I brought the subject of a resolve up quite abruptly. My new resolve it to keep a blog at least as well as I've kept a journal this past year. (In case you were wondering, I have written in my journal nearly every day, thanks to my roommate of last year Liz Hale.)

I suppose the best way to start is to say hello! I'm Melissa, aka methebookworm. As you may have guessed I like to read. A lot. Its kind of sad really. Sad because I don't have time to read any more. I am a full time college student at Utah State University, majoring in English, and I work part time as an office assistant in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry office. I'm gone from 9:00-3:30 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and from 7:30-5:00 on Thursday and Friday. I'm taking 4 different english classes, a US history class, and I'm in the women's choir.

I really like english. It has so many different facets. For example, I'm taking an elements of grammar class, an American literary history class, an orientation class, and a literary analysis class. All very different and fascinating in their own ways.

Working in the Chemistry and Biochemistry office is fun. I get to do all sorts of random projects, greet visitors, and answer the few phone calls the office gets. It is much like the job I had at Mountain View, only more challenging.

My roommates this year are very cool! I'm so blessed to get two sets of awesome roommates two years in a row! My room-roommate is Liz Duke (not to be confused with Liz Hale, a roommate from last year, or Liz Gubler, a friend from home). She is a freshman and likes to read. Not as much as me, but it would be unfair to hold others to my standard ;). My other roommates are Carlie Morrison (freshman), Alex Jensen (sophomore), and McKensie Crowthers (sophomore). We all get along smashingly.

I am looking forward to visiting home this coming weekend. I love and miss my family!
